Sharing My (Our) Story

I am sharing this with select friends for now, but someday, maybe I'll share it with a bigger group. These friends are people who are partners in prayer, and some are friends I know are going through the same fertility issues, or who have been there before.

I debated whether I'll share the cost of doing IVF. In the end, I decided to include it so people who are considering it will know the financial requirement to undergo this process. Anyway, as far as Kato is concerned, the cost of services is posted on their website. It is not a big secret. IVF is emotionally, physically and financially taxing. It is definitely not for everyone. That's why it took us a long time to decide to go for it.

Visit #8 - Second Decapeptyl Injection

April 5, 2015 | Happy Resurrection Sunday! It was a restful Holy Week. We just stayed at home the whole time, and I was pretty much holed up in my craft room the entire time. We got up early Sunday, well rested and ready to get the work week started. But first, a stop at the Kato clinic. Hubby dropped me off as he needed to drive to our city home with our dog and helper. Anyway, I imagined it will be a quick visit.

And it was. I was patient number five and I got called shortly after 8am. The nurse and I discussed how I want the injection administered. I was hoping that we'll do it subcutaneously, just like last time. It wasn't painful. The other nurse, the one who did it last time, reminded me that she had to inject me twice because the thicker liquid had a difficult time passing through the very thin subcutaneous needle. So she suggested to the other nurse that we do it via a muscle, a.k.a. my butt. I agreed. Hesitantly. Memories of my first grade experience came flooding back. There was a vaccination campaign across the first grade classes in the municipal public schools. I remember being very scared as I watched my classmates get injected. When my turn came, I ended up crying and not having that injection. Of course I am much braver now.

This is what the box looks like. It's refrigerated.

I laid down on my tummy and the nurse helped pull my pants down. Before I knew it, it was done. No pain. Whew!

The nurse had to mix the contents of the two syringes, attach a needle to the one that contains the mixture, and inject the cocktail into my buttocks.

This thing costs Php8,400. I didn't pay any other fees. I also don't have to talk to the doctor at this point. I was done by 8:30am.

Next visit - May 3, 2015.
