Sharing My (Our) Story
I am sharing this with select friends for now, but someday, maybe I'll share it with a bigger group. These friends are people who are partners in prayer, and some are friends I know are going through the same fertility issues, or who have been there before.
I debated whether I'll share the cost of doing IVF. In the end, I decided to include it so people who are considering it will know the financial requirement to undergo this process. Anyway, as far as Kato is concerned, the cost of services is posted on their website. It is not a big secret. IVF is emotionally, physically and financially taxing. It is definitely not for everyone. That's why it took us a long time to decide to go for it.

Visit #7 - Decapeptyl Injection
I called Kato in the morning and informed them that my period came Thursday morning. I was told I can come in that same afternoon, but I could hardly get up from bed, so I didn't think I can bring myself to the clinic that afternoon. I asked if I can come in Friday instead. I was told it's ok.
In the evening, the pain got worse. I couldn't sleep. I got got up at midnight to refill my hot water bottle. When my 3am alarm came off, I was just beginning to doze off. So I spent much of Friday morning catching up on sleep. I got up to prepare for my doctor's appointment at noon. I decided not to drive and just book a car via Uber. That will save me from the stress of finding a parking slot. And besides, I still do not feel like driving.
March 6, 2015 | I arrived at the Kato clinic before 1:30pm. I didn't wait long before I got called into the treatment room. The nurse showed me the Decapeptyl kit and started preparing it. Decapeptyl is used to treat prostate cancer (what?!), endometriosis and fibroids in the uterus. I guess Adenomyosis is similar to both Endometriosis and fibroids. Anyway, I was told the nurse can inject it to my arm or buttocks. After a while, the nurse said she can also inject it in my tummy, similar to Gonal-F. Since I did not experience pain injecting Gonal F into my tummy, I decided to have it injected on my tummy. Great decision. It didn't hurt, though I felt the needle pricking my flesh - unlike with Gonal F which I didn't feel at all.
Anyway, it was a very quick process. I was asked to come back for the second dose in April 4. We will do it monthly for the next three months. It is supposed to shrink my adenomyosis which should increase the success rate of our embryo transfer.
Cost of today's visit is Php8,400. That's just for the injection. This isn't part of the standard IVF cost. This is an added cost to treat a specific condition, so if one isn't suffering from endometriosis, adenomyosis or fibroids (myoma), then there is not need to pay for this treatment.
Please pray that I will respond well to this treatment. Please pray that I will not experience any side effects (mood swings, pain, high blood pressure, dizziness, etc.).
Thank you!
